This is a RENE PIEL or a CHARLES PETIT 3-BOLT DIVING HELMET, circa 1800s - early 1900s. It's construction was from one sheet of copper; the gear-like seam at the top and the two vertical seams on the front (photos 10-11 respectively) were made at the factory and is a hallmark of how helmets during this time period were constructed. Notice the exhaust assembly soldering. Work done on this helmet during its heydays. As to be expected with helmets from this era, scratches, a few dents, and some patina are present.
The telephone connection (photo 10) is of the acoustic type that functioned with a diaphragm located above the air train (photo 7). The air train in this helmet is made of three connected slots (photo 7). Other markings include an R stamped on the faceplate and PP stamped on the air intake connections.
