This pan is beautiful and old. It has been lovingly maintained and polished for many years. This was made in northern France by a Chaudronnerie or single Coppersmith, it has no manufacturing marks. It has been raised, with castellated or dovetailed joints and hammered into shape, it is made from two pieces one for the side and one for the base, the handle has beautifully hammered rivets, a primitive splash lid to match - it is primitive in style and manufacture. It is a lesson in the early manufacture of copper pans in France. It has an exceptional patina that cannot be faked or replicated, it is something that occurs over time and use. Unfortunately, it leaks along one of the seams. This can be repaired if you wish - this is a pan that would not look out of place in a mid Georgian kitchen, or a kitchen of the Napoleonic era. If you want one statement piece in your kitchen you could do a lot worse than this.
It looks great and has a long illustrious story to tell. This has been used in a French kitchen and has been passed down to family members over many, many years.
There are three copper rivets on the handle which are securely fixed. There are many indentations all over this piece, there are surface scratches and losses, it is out of shape but sits flat and looks exceptional espcially when the sunlight hits it. It weighs 1.25 kilos 2lbs 12.3ozs and is 16cm across around 6 1/4 inches, the lid is 17cm or 6 3/4 inches across. This is an old solid pan that was designed and made for the professional kitchen in the early 1800s, little did they know that it would be still looking great in the 21st century.
