Rare Art Deco 1930s Pettitot French Copper Winged Glass Ceiling Light Chandelier
Rare stylish antique 1930s decorative French copper, winged, ceiling light by Henri Petitot, crowned by its original glass circular disc or halo with beautiful swirling etched design. Spectacular, decorative and streamlined, this light fixture by Henri Petitot of Paris, is one of the finest examples of French Art Deco. A beautiful rich copper pairs beautifully with the etched clear glass unique wings or even flames, typical of Art Deco Movement motifs. In addition, the light is completed by a separate original small opaque disc, which sits within the base. The 1930s design oozes quality and style, it is ultra contemporary.

It will look stunning in any contemporary home or business. It is unique, no one else will have anything quite like it. The style reminds us of the old Flash Gordon films!

This very beautiful ceiling light once hung in a prominent elegant town house in Brighton. Unusual to have survived in such good condition, especially with the very fragile decorative etched glass halo completing the light. Atelier Petitot began with Antonin Petitot, a bronze artisan who founded his company in 1878.

The metal work was really their forte, and they joined forces with the finest producers of glasswork in the 1930s including Muller, Sabino, Degue and Schneider. The glass is not always signed, as the arrangement made with Petitot allowed for them to privately label their designs.

Their catalogue from 1930 reveals that they offered a sconce, which could be ordered in chrome or copper with wings of glass from Saint-Gobain company in a variety of colors. Overall it is in amazing condition for its age. The copper top plate, which affixes to the ceiling, is bent to one area with some dimples.

It is not visible, however, when fixed to the ceiling. The glass ceiling rose halo is complete and has some very slight chipping, hardly noticeable, to the purposeful break. The original brass bayonet fittings can be angled internally to suit direction of light.

Glass halo or disc measures 61cm in diameter. Small circular opaque disc measures 13cm in diameter.

Copper light fitting height measures 50cm. Copper base diameter measures 28.5cm diameter. Due to its fragility I would prefer collection from Worthing/Lancing area on the South Coast, West Sussex.

I could post but it would be totally at the buyers own risk. Please get in touch for any enquiries. I also have another similar but smaller Art Deco Petitot light from the same source, listed separately.
